Yesterday, at the boudoir studio, I met with the young ladies of Shake It Out, Inc. This theater and empowerment non-profit works with young women in Brooklyn and the Bronx. This year the program’s theme is “This is Me.” Noreen Yarwood, the director and who I met through JAM, reached out and asked if we could collaborate. I was so excited, I immediately said yes.
We had the opportunity to sit down and talk about body image in today’s world. We talked about what it means to look inside of ourselves for approval rather than certain societal or social media approval. I was able to share how boudoir photography allows me to help people (specifically women) feel good and confident. Through art, we are able to create imagery that is about affirming your unique beauty.
I truly believe beauty is an inside job. You need to work to have the confidence to feel good about yourself. I think whatever is going on externally can be made better if you are clear internally that you are beautiful! It felt good to be able to talk to young women about it and for them to truly get it!!
