I had done a boudoir shoot in the past. I believe firmly that boudoir is something empowering you can do as a practice of self love. Boudoir is also a thoughtful gift that you can give to someone you love! A boudoir shoot makes for the perfect wedding gift idea for your spouse.
I decided to partner with Nomi Ellenson of Boudoir by Nomi to do a wedding boudoir shoot. After the wedding, I presented him with a book featuring the images. I watched as his eyes lit up in surprise at seeing me this way. I also looked at these images and I was like ‘DAMN GIRL.’
Boudoir by Nomi specializes in intimate photography. The experience is exactly that: personal and intimate. I arrived to Nomi’s private studio in Brooklyn. It has tall ceilings and big industrial windows providing natural light. There’s a number of comfortable furniture set-ups that you can use in your shoot.
One of my favorite aspects of this boudoir shoot was that I got my hair and makeup done by Boudoir by Nomi’s in-house makeup artist and hair stylist. She asked me how I usually wore my hair and makeup and I let her know that I wanted something elevated from my daily glam. I have always done my own hair and makeup for my boudoir shoots in the past. It was nice to have an expert there to take my look to the next level!
Since this shoot was boudoir photography with a specific purpose of being a wedding gift for my husband, I planned subtle details that my husband would appreciate. I wore lingerie in his favorite color of red. I posed in nothing but a veil and blue shoes and I highlighted my engagement ring in chest-hugging shots. I pushed myself out of my usual boudoir comfort zone by going a little past a sexy sly smile.
Nomi offers lingerie in a range of sizes up to 5X so I was able to borrow a few things for my shoot since I was traveling and didn’t have exactly what I needed. She also provided a dramatic wedding veil that really made this boudoir shoot wedding themed!
For most shoots, I don’t need any kind of coaching for posing. Intimate photography is different than fashion modeling. It requires a different kind of vulnerability. I actually prefer to have a photographer who knows how to pose me. It can feel unnatural to pose in next to nothing but having a photographer who is body positive and LGBTQ+ friendly makes all the difference!
You may not be getting married or looking for a wedding gift idea for your future spouse but you don’t need a specific occasion to do a boudoir shoot. Whether you just want to celebrate your self love or give the shoot as a book to someone special, I can’t recommend Boudoir by Nomi enough especially if you’re based in the New York City area.
Make sure you follow Boudoir by Nomi on Instagram so you don’t miss any upcoming Black Friday specials. They will be good, y’all! If you mention that you found her from me, you will get an extra digital file with any collection purchase.
