So thrilled to share about Alyss’s boudoir shoot today on the blog! Alyss and I connected through our college alumni network (woo Barnard!). I just started my private Facebook group and was posting it around. With the universe of social media, true connection can be made, which is fantastic.
Alyss’s shoot was about helping her learn to love her body after going through medical issues this past year. Alyss is dealing with health issues that doesn’t allow her to keep her previous weight. Our goal was to help her recognize her strength instead of focusing on her weight.
The shoot was asking us to step into the energy of self-acceptance and recognition. We never know what someone else is going through, and I appreciate her willingness to share her story and photos!
- What made you decide to do a shoot?
I wanted to do a boudoir shoot for several years but it remained a vague future plan that I hadn’t thought much about. It was only when Nomi posted on a Barnard Alumnae social media page that I knew it was time to take the plunge. The timing was perfect as I’ve been recovering from health problems that had resulted in a complicated relationship with my body. I’ve had to learn to love myself despite medical challenges/differences and this seemed like an ideal place to start.
It’s worth mentioning that I was also particularly excited to support a female photographer and entrepreneur (and a fellow Barnard alumna at that). It’s a rare chance to be able to support someone’s art in that manner,..
- How did you discover Boudoir by Nomi?
I was thrilled to see Nomi’s post on a Barnard social media page. After looking through her portfolio and reading about her shoots and philosophy, I reached out immediately to book a session!
- What was the experience like?
Relaxing, professional, and so much fun! Nomi has built a small but mighty team of amazing women who take care of the whole process from booking to photo delivery. The first call I received about my appointment request, I was entirely unsure of what to expect but was immediately put at ease by the friendly and understanding women on the other end of the line.
Nomi’s studio was even more beautiful and comfortable in person and it was amazing to walk into my favorite music since Nomi had put on my latest Spotfiy playlist (after I shared my account with her). Thanks to Nomi’s phenomenal stylist, makeup and hair were exactly what I was hoping for – so much so that I had to ask if I’d be able to hire her for any formal events in the future!
- What would you say to someone considering doing a shoot?
No questions asked, do it. I might be giving my partner photos as a present, but this shoot was exactly what I needed. I cried the second I saw the first photo in my post-shoot review with Nomi and I know I’ll cherish these for years to come.
