With Nomi Ellenson, Boudoir by Nomi
“Self-care” has become a popular phrase in recent years, especially during the pandemic as our routines and lifestyles were upended. The resulting chaos meant, for many, a negative shift in personal energy with increased stress, worry, and anxiety. But self-care is much more than a trendy term.
As natural caregivers, women often put their attention on others first, but caring for ourselves puts us in the best position to show up for others. Far from an indulgence, self-care focuses on our physical, emotional, and spiritual needs, creating energetic alignment.
Not having time for self-care is one of the main excuses for letting opportunities pass us by. Prioritizing our well-being is not only a chance to unlock emotional fulfillment but improve our physical health.
I work to create moments for my own self-care and help other women prioritize theirs through photography experiences that allow them to redefine beauty on their terms. As a former fashion magazine photographer, Boudoir by Nomi has been my pathway to focus on a more holistic definition of beauty.
Whether you’re just beginning your self-care discovery or looking for new opportunities, these methods and products allow me to reconnect with myself in an authentic, affirming way.
Self-care doesn’t need to be lavish or time-consuming. My simple morning coffee routine provides a zen moment of self-connection.
The process of creating the perfect cup of pour-over coffee is soothing – as is the perfect cup after! You can easily refrigerate or reheat with the Chemex and it’s easy to clean.
The Chemex filters are the perfect shape, plus they’re heavy-duty to prevent granules from getting to your cup or having the whole thing break when you remove it.
Coffee & Filter Organization Stand
This coffee stand organizes my morning with space to hold filters and save counter space. Plus, the mat below the coffee carafe keeps everything tidy.
Not a morning coffee drinker? This tropical tea is a noncaffeinated option, plus ancient societies believed hibiscus to be a natural way to reduce your blood pressure.
My meditation routine allows me to reprogram my neural pathways and release negative energy. By seeing our emotions as a great strength, we unleash our feminine capacity. We need to be good to ourselves, kind to ourselves, to allow that capacity to grow and become more powerful.
Meditating while using a foam roller is a great way to give your body a stretch, too! This super-durable roller is gentler for soft compression massage of muscles and trigger points.
This is my absolute favorite journal! There are areas to create short and long-term goals, plus space for unedited brainstorming. For every journal sold, they give away a journal to someone in need.
Every perfect journal needs and perfect pen. And yes, these are purple! Plus they don’t smudge when I shut my journal or bleed through to the next page.
Nomi’s meditation routine is a way to reprogram her neural pathways and release negative energy, setting up her thoughts for the day.
I have a little zen moment with these undereye masks anytime I’m feeling puffy and want to release those dark circles. They’re natural and super-hydrating.
Absolute favorite new buy! I get more volume, texture, and beachy waves. Plus it works on wet hair right out of the shower or dry hair if I’m styling on an unwashed day.
If you’ve been to the Boudoir by Nomi studio, this candle is the amazing fragrance you’ve experienced. I use it at home, too.
Beyond meditation, moving your body is an important component of self-care. Before boudoir shoots, I encourage my clients to incorporate some movement into how they’re preparing to allow their bodies to warm up and feel fluid.
Since these elastic band weights are velcro, they can fit on your wrists or ankles to add a little challenge when you’re doing cardio, barre, yoga, or any workout.
This little friend is in my studio and is hilarious. He’s there when you need to get some aggression out, but mostly you’ll end up laughing – he’s too cute.
No matter how you do it, make time for the self-care your body, mind, and spirit deserve. Whether you make major moves like choosing to have your own boudoir photography session or make time each day for the perfect cup of coffee, self-care will pay dividends for your emotional and physical health.
