Sneaking a photo album of boudoir-style images to her fiance on their wedding day was the moment Dani Core had in mind when she starting researching photographers.
The Connecticut-based school teacher was going to be married in 2020 when the pandemic hit and put her plans on hold. The couple will enjoy a larger wedding party in 2022 but the boudoir album will be a memorable moment in their smaller ceremony in July 2021.
She met her now-fiance Chris in a recreational soccer league. He’s Brazillian and she’s Uruguayan so soccer is their mutual love.
“I could be sweaty and covered in dirt but he would say I’m still the most gorgeous woman in the world,” she says. “I have a slight bit of body and image dysmorphia so he helps me remember what I actually look like, not what’s in my head. I thought doing something like boudoir would help me see myself the way he sees me.”
When she began looking for a boudoir photography partner to bring her special wedding moment to life, she found many who did boudoir as part of a larger package of options or whose work was dark and deeply sexualized. She was drawn to Boudoir by Nomi’s specialization in the art of boudoir and her lighter, vibrant aesthetic.
“Nomi’s photography is geared toward normalizing women’s bodies and empowering women to be themselves,” Dani says. “It isn’t just part of her work on top of family portraits and wedding photos. She focuses on it.”
After having a conversation with Nomi, Dani knew this was the direction she wanted to go. Nomi made her feel comfortable and she immediately booked her shoot. Nomi even went out of her way to help find the perfect lingerie, Dani says.
When she walked into the studio, Dani found a welcoming and friendly vibe. “It was like I’d been their friend forever,” she says. “I was immediately so comfortable.”
With a glass of prosecco in hand, Dani had her hair and makeup done thanks to Nomi’s teammate Nikki. She’d only had her makeup done professionally once or twice so Dani was thrilled when Nikki really nailed it.
“I explained what I wanted and she made it happen,” Dani says. “Then she stuck around to be my hype woman! It’s one big, happy boudoir family,” she laughed.
Having never done boudoir before, Dani was concerned that posing would be an awkward experience, but she had all the guidance she needed.
“Nomi was walking me through it but also allowing for flexibility so I could be myself. She made it so comfortable and the photos turned out better than I imagined. Even when choosing the photos I liked best, I’m usually so indecisive. But Nomi broke it down for me and helped me choose without inserting herself so much that it didn’t feel like my decision.”
The result? An amazing album of photos that’s wedding day ready.
“I can’t wait to give them to Chris,” Dani says. “I walked in thinking this was going to be a gift for him but it was an opportunity for me to see myself in a way I’d never before. I left the shoot believing about myself what he sees in me.”
