The journey and growth of Boudoir by Nomi wasn’t linear.
My context, creating photography that communicates self-love, self-acceptance, and self-expansion, has been a product of all my experiences.
And since doing a boudoir shoot requires a level of vulnerability, I want to shed some layers with you.
Being a woman, and the female perspective, has always been an interest and passion for me.
My Great-Grandmother Selma was infamous for helping women find the right bra size until the age of 95. Growing up, my mother was a sex-ed teacher. Having these two females in my life displayed that education, and helping others was a viable career path.
In high school, I organized a pro-choice assembly, and my senior year I did a project about female bullying. I chose to go to an all women’s college, an environment where being a woman was an asset to growth.
I was a psych major in college, with my major extra-curricular activity being answering calls for the student hotline. My junior year, I took a photography class on a whim and from there I was hooked.
Post-college, I first pursued commercial and fashion photography. Very early on though, I saw how my photography was perpetuating beauty stereotypes I didn’t agree with or believe in. It wasn’t the right fit.
I discovered boudoir on the set of a shoot I was doing for a modeling agency. I dressed the model in lingerie since that was the fashion I had the most access to (my family being in the lingerie industry since 1888), and someone asked if I had heard of boudoir.
That moment was one of the most powerful in my life.
I started with a boudoir Groupon deal to get my business started, and from those shoots I saw how much it moved each of my clients. I had found my purpose.
I know what it’s like to feel fear, not being so sure about the next move, or wondering if the right decision is being made.
That’s why I think I relate to my clients and my clients relate to me. Because I know what it is and feels like to be a woman in this world. You are worthy of feeling good in your physical form, just as you are. And I have found that through photography, a visual tool of communication, I am able to help you do just that.
I would love to continue this journey with you, DM me on IG or book a consult here.
Xox,
Nomi
