Behind the Camera

Body and soul: what I see through the lens…

There’s a quote by Wayne Dyer that’s stuck with me for years:

“We are not human beings having a spiritual experience; we are spiritual beings having a human experience.”

As I’ve gone deeper into my boudoir work, this idea has only become more meaningful.

So many of us dislike photos of ourselves because we’ve been trained to see only the surface — the physical, and usually the perceived flaws. But what we often don’t see is our essence — the soul that shines through.

We are both body and spirit. And not every photo captures that.

That’s why we often love the casual, unposed shots of ourselves — the ones where we’re caught mid-laugh, mid-thought, fully in our energy. We’re not performing, we’re just being.

This is also why the experience of having your photo taken matters so much. When you feel safe, seen, and held — that emotion gets reflected back. The photo becomes about so much more than what your body looks like. It becomes about what you felt in that moment.

And when you feel that truth — when you see yourself that way — a photo can feel like an affirmation.

A kind of altar.

A physical reminder of your inner self.

So many of my clients come to me because they want to rewrite their relationship with the camera — and with themselves. And the beautiful thing is: we can. It’s not always easy, but it is possible. And it starts with choosing to see yourself differently.

With love and softness,
Nomi
