I’ve been thinking a lot about the art of boudoir and what it really means, beyond just the photos
It’s hard to know just what exactly the container is like, when you haven’t experienced it yet for yourself. So, I’m unveiling some of the things I wish more people knew about boudoir – because it’s really more than just pretty pictures.
🌹 It’s like yoga – but with lingerie on. It’s much more mindful, grounding, slow, and intentional than it seems, at least, in my studio it is. We do a lot of breath work, holding poses and moving through them with intention.
🌹 Not everyone can pick up a camera and be a boudoir photographer. Booking a photographer who isn’t trained in boudoir specifically, body neutrality, and holding trauma-informed-safer-spaces has the potential to be really harmful. Photographers can bring their baggage into a shoot and project it onto you, causing more harm than good. Be intentional and picky about who you shoot with – this is an intimate and vulnerable space.
🌹 The healing portion is entirely in your hands. I give you the tools, coaching, and hold the space for you to explore the healing you wanna do – but ultimately, I can’t pick the tools up for you. You can use boudoir as a space to heal and reflect, or you can just use it as a space to celebrate and have amazing photos taken!
🌹 Literally E V E R Y O N E has body image issues. Listen, get close, I’m going to tell you something. I’ve worked with over 1000 people, and every single person has a hang up about their bod. HM it’s almost like it’s not an us problem but a systemic problem. If the only reason you haven’t stepped in front of the lens is because of your relationship with your body image, everyone is in or has been in a battle with their brains around their bods. That’s not to say your body image issues don’t matter and aren’t valid – but they are universal. It’s time we stopped letting learned beliefs around our bods stop us from being our favorite version of ourselves, ya? Ya!
🌹 You don’t need to change a damn thing about your bod to be worthy of being photographed. You can be beautiful AND insecure at the same time. You are worthy of being photographed right now as you are, I promise.
